Pinball Medics Company Information

General information

Repairs

Many common maintenance issues arise in vintage arcade equipment, pinball machines in particular.

With the machine manufacturer and game name of your pinball machine or classic arcade style video game, and a clear description of the problem, we can often diagnose the problem and come prepared with the parts to get the job done on the spot. It is helpful if you have a game manual or schematics for your pinball machine, please let us know if you do.

This information is best conveyed by a no charge phone assessment where we will go over these details and provide you with a quote to perform the prescribed procedures.

If, upon inspection of your game, it is determined that it requires more extensive repairs than are possible to be performed in your home, for a reasonable fee we can carefully disassemble your machine and transport it to our shop here in Ottawa for more involved repairs. We will then return it to your home, set it up, and ensure it is in perfect health before leaving. We service the entire greater Ottawa area, and will travel outside Ottawa for a fee.

To save the cost of our moving your machine, call us to make arrangements and we can usually get your game in and back to you in short order.

We operate by appointment only, as we do not have a storefront location, so please ensure to have an appointment confirmed by phone prior to arriving to avoid inconvenience to both parties.

We do strive to provide as quick of a turnover as possible, but some issues do take longer to resolve, such as circuit board repairs or replacements, or hard to obtain game specific parts. We will keep you informed of any delays, and have your machine back to full health and home to you as soon as possible.

Tune-ups

Every few years, depending on frequency of use, pinball machines need to be “shopped”. This involves removing some of the playfield components, cleaning and polishing the entire surface of the playing area, removal and replacement of any burnt bulbs, the removal and replacement of the old worn playfield and flipper rubbers, the correction of any maladjusted switches, and finally the reassembly of the playfield. Many games from the 1930’s to the mid 1980’s can be shopped on site in your home, while the majority of games from the mid 1980’s onward require shop time at our facilities due to the added complexity of the playfields.

Often, when a game is in for repair, this is the time to shop it and ensure everything is in perfect working order, ready to provide faithful service for years to come. While it is impossible to guarantee something as complex as a classic pinball machine that is often older than anything you own, when properly dialed in, this equipment can perform reliably for many years when only exposed to in home use and not moved.

Restoration

While we do service games for a living, we are all very passionate about restoring and preserving classic pinball machines.

We feel great satisfaction in bringing these timeless classics back to their former glory, as they were in the days of our youth, when pinball machines littered every corner of every store in Ottawa and across the world. To be played and enjoyed as they were intended, like shadows of another day, giving us an amazing opportunity to relive our past through these marvels of mechanical electrical pop culture art magic.

We will take the same care and pay the same attention to detail with your pinball machine as with those we restore for ourselves to sell, and to keep in our own permanent personal pinball collections.

Some of the full restoration services we offer include playfield paint touch-ups and urethane clear coating, pinball and video game cabinet repainting with or without stencils, circuit board and display replacement or repair, playfield “plastics” replacement, drop target and pop bumper replacement, and even full NOS (new old stock) playfield transplants to name a few.

KISS Pinball is a perfect example of a very popular game, both now and when it was new. As a consequence, though there were many made, there are few left that are not worn out from years of heavy use.

The KISS pinball machine and many others, like the Adams Family, Medieval Madness, Fireball, Fathom, Centaur, or Creature from the Black Lagoon are highly sought by collectors and casual players alike, as a result of their being a great combination of fantastic gameplay, beautiful artwork, and a attractive and/or collectible theme.

These prized collectibles are often the candidates for serious ground up restoration. As a result, much like the classic car scene, very high quality aftermarket reproduction parts are available, in particular for the more desirable pinball machines, and collectors will part with prized new old stock parts, but at a price...

These types of restorations can cost _thousands_ of dollars. Sometimes two to three times the original cost of the game when it was new!

But if you absolutely, positively, need a mint condition Bally Six Million Dollar Man pinball machine, just like the one at the pizza shop down the road from your parents house that you played when you were a kid, and will accept no substitutes... we have the technology. We can rebuild it. Better, stronger, faster... And we can get it all in for well under 6 Million in 1970's US Dollars!

At the end of the day, if you are passionate about a particular pinball machine and need it. Or maybe you're passionate about more than one particular pinball machine... We understand.

Pinball addiction is something everyone here at pinball medics can relate to.

We have the cure.

Through decades of painstaking research, the only prescription we can guarantee that will remedy pinball withdrawal, is more pinball.

Trust us.

We're Pinball Medics...
