It was never a dream, it was a plan.

In 2002 in his adolescence years, Skyler Winsor put a pencil to paper to write about his views on what a fulfilled life would look like as he thought about his future. What started as a form of escapism quickly became a blueprint as he exerted his energy in the weight room and the hockey rinks of his hometown in Timmins, ON. Quickly, writing became on-going research as this lifestyle developed a strong interest in branding. He would document creative ideas and collect magazine clippings with positive marketing campaigns and visuals. Although creating a t-shirt line was never the initial thought, the foresight was apparent when he purchased a blank white t-shirt and wrote “Never Give Up” in permanent marker on the front as a reminder to himself to keep his bar set high.

Skyler’s struggle to stay focused in school found him in the guidance councillor’s office constantly with hopes that the right opportunity would tie the whole plan together. In his down time he began designing basic websites for his hockey teams while learning the fundamentals of design software. After high school, Skyler made the move from his Northern Ontario roots to the Canadian capital to leverage a larger networking platform and establishing his footprint.

While he worked to solidify his stay in Ottawa, Skyler recognized the term “Unsung Hero” more frequently in the sports world and throughout the community when defining someone who made a sacrifice for the betterment of others. It became evident that ultimate fulfillment didn’t come from the destination but rather the process and the social impact made on others while doing so.

Unsung Hero was introduced to Facebook with nothing more than a vision statement and a few early t-shirt mock-ups that personified the daily grind. The top voted design from friends and family was produced on twelve individual prototypes while the quality was assessed by the longevity of it’s wear and tear. After three years of product and brand development while seeking start-up capital, the Unsung Hero dream became reality with the launch of the online store on May 2012, retailing the first mini line of t-shirts.

Today, Unsung Hero products can be found across North America worn by individuals with many varying aspirations but share the same motive of maximizing their 24 hours. Unsung Hero is constantly evolving as a dynamic brand with a commitment to durability, comfort and style in all products to adapt to both athletic and lifestyle settings.

Unsung Hero headquarter’s is situated in Ottawa’s west-end with a fully operating public showroom and creative studio for the team’s daily operations. In addition to online and retail, Unsung Hero has since expanded its services into a collaborative teamwear division. This expansion specializes in creative cobranding with like-minded organizations producing custom wholesale garments.

The brand’s foundation is credited to the involvement of their loyal consumer base with aspirations of making a positive social impact worldwide.
