Revolver Films Company Information

General information

Founded in Toronto in 1983, before the mass popularity of MuchMusic and MTV, Revolver has built an award-winning reputation for world-class music-based film and video projects for over 25 years.

The company’s earliest ventures saw founder Don Allan directing projects for Canadian rock royalty like Triumph, Glass Tiger and the legendary Leonard Cohen. Since then, Revolver has produced work for a long and diverse list of international icons including Björk, The White Stripes, Oasis, Christina Aguilera, Interpol, Mary J. Blige, Celine Dion, Gnarls Barkley, Feist, and Avril Lavigne.

The company’s production portfolio spans music videos, commercials, dance and short films, documentaries, live concert videos and webcasts. Revolver’s staying power and brand integrity stem from a commitment to producing cutting-edge work and supporting top quality music and director talent, no matter how big or small the project.

Revolver videos have been featured on numerous annual Best-Of lists (Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, SPIN), received honors at the U.S. MTV Awards, the U.K. Music Video Awards, and the MuchMusic Video Awards. In the past five years, the company has earned more nominations than any other company at Canada’s Juno Awards in the Video of the Year category. And, in 2006, Revolver led all production companies with seven nominations at the U.S. Music Video Production Association Awards, including a Director of the Year nod for the visionary Floria Sigismondi.

Film festivals that have selected Revolver projects include SXSW, the LA Film Festival, CPH: Dox, the Worldwide Short Film Festival, One Dot Zero, BAFICI, Ambulante, Raindance, and the San Francisco Animation Festival.

Beyond Revolver’s own director roster, the company has been the go-to producer for high-profile service projects commissioned by visiting companies from the U.S. and the U.K. for such artists as Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna and Wyclef Jean.

Most recently, U.K. music bible NME named Wendy Morgan’s video for Janelle Monáe’s “Tightrope” as the Best Video of 2010; director Charlie White's second video for Interpol, “Lights,” received a Best Rock Video nomination at the U.K. MVAs; Fluorescent Hill’s video for N.A.S.A.’s “Spacious Thoughts” (featuring Tom Waits and Kool Keith) received a nomination for Best Hip Hop Video at the Music Video Production Association Awards; and Anthony Seck’s feature-length Feist documentary, Look At What The Light Did Now, was released internationally to critical acclaim.
