Douglas Hall Company Information

General information

Situated just north of McGill's main campus, Douglas Hall joins McConnell, Molson and Gardner Halls in a residence community that is collectively referred to as "Upper Rez." Founded in 1937, Douglas' impressive stone exterior remains unchanged. The building is divided into 8 houses, all of which can be accessed through a common courtyard, or internally via the underground 'tunnel.' Each house has single and/or double occupancy rooms. Most single rooms are arranged in a suite with three bedrooms sharing a common living area (the living area is furnished with a sofa, chair and coffee table). Residents of Douglas Hall join a long line of McGill students in dining at the Douglas Cafeteria, located within the building. The first student moved in on August 29, 1937 and the McGill News reported that he "...breakfasted in lonely glory on August 30." The dining room itself features an exposed timber ceiling and is a fine meeting place for residents to gather. Douglas Hall highlights: Washroom facilities are shared and centrally located on each floor (floors are co-ed with residents sharing a common washroom). There is a shared kitchen, centrally located in the 'tunnel.' Douglas Hall is considered to be traditional dormitory-style housing. 155 rooms housing 179 students. The lease is 8 months in length, beginning on move-in weekend and ending on April 30th, the last day of final exams. Electricity, hot water, heating (controlled by individual thermostats) are included in the rent. High speed wireless Internet is part of your residence rent. Telephone service is not provided by McGill. Students may purchase phone plans from an independent mobile service provider, or use pre-paid calling cards.
