The purpose of the Wholistic Living Institute (WLI)) is to help people reach their full potential physically, mentally, and spiritually in a wholistic and scientific manner.
A wholistic manner means that one does not treat the parts of a person atomistically, but rather as parts of an interactive whole. This is based on the scientifically observed principle that what we do physically affects us mentally, and what we do mentally affects us physically.
A scientific manner means that the principles applied are based on scientific observation and research.
The primary means the institute uses to help people is through education. Courses are offered on a regular basis, the primary one being The Science of Diet and Health. All courses take a wholistic approach, and for example, while The Science of Diet and Health focuses on diet, it also includes instruction on physical exercise and mindfulness.
The Science of Diet and Health
The Science of Diet and Health presents the latest and best scientific research on the relationship between diet and health. The research strongly indicates that most of the ailments that afflict people in the Western World are due primarily to diet. These include cardio vascular disease (heart disease and strokes), most cancers, diabetes, and various auto-immune diseases. In addition, there are now several medical doctors who are halting, reversing, and completely curing these diseases through diet alone.
Naturally, the prescribed diet is a radical departure from what most people eat. Some people may find the diet limiting despite the huge variety of choice the diet allows. This is mostly due to ingrained habits in regard to dishes and cooking methods. The course thus includes tips on how to transition to the diet. In addition, each class includes cooking and preparation instructions with truly delicious recipes from soups, salads, dips, and spreads, to stews, sandwiches, burgers, and sautés, to desserts and smoothies. The recipes include dishes and spices from around the world, so be prepared for some new and exciting taste sensations.
The diet is especially beneficial to those suffering from obesity, which is directly caused by diet. Obesity is thus often a strong indicator of the likelihood of having disease. The diet allows one to eat as much as one likes, and lose weight rapidly and safely. The diet leaves one feeling satisfied and content. Naturally, there are limitations on what sort of foods one can eat; however, the variety of healthy foods is immense.
In keeping with the wholistic approach, each class also includes instruction on light physical exercise and mindfulness. These are geared to help with the lifestyle change required by the diet. Studies have shown that physical exercise helps the mind learn new things and cope better with change. Also, as with any lifestyle change there is often subconscious resistance based on a variety of fears and worries. The mindfulness exercises are designed to bring these to consciousness and hopefully reduced, if not eliminated. The mindfulness exercises also include a small amount of meditation exercises. These like the physical exercises help the mind adapt to change.
Each class follows this general format:
• 5-minute introductory exercise
• 45-minute lecture with PowerPoint on the scientific evidence
• 15-minute instruction on exercise techniques
• 20-minute mindfulness exercises
• 30-minute cooking and recipe instruction
• Closing 5-minute meditation
