Pelee Island’s Pheasant Hunts are a long standing Island tradition that started in 1932. Pelee is the largest Island of the Lake Erie Islands, covering 10,000 acres with a length of 19km and width of 6km. During the course of our 3 Fall Hunts we release approximately 15, 000 birds over this expansive area.
Pelee Island has more to offer than just our Fall Hunts. In 2004 we started offering our Cleanup Hunts. These are three day hunts that occur over a 4 week span in late fall. Although we don’t release any additional birds there are still plenty left over from the Fall Hunts. These hunt, less crowded than our Fall Hunts, are for those who aren’t afraid of a little cold or a challenge.
From January to the end of February we offer Winter Pheasant Hunts. For these hunts birds are released in the location of our hunters’ choosing. To offer the most fulfilling and exciting hunting experience we offer Rabbit Hunts as well. These two licences can be purchased together so, that not a second of hunt time is wasted.
Just because the cold weather is gone doesn’t mean that we say goodbye to hunting. With the spring, and sunny warm weather that the Island is known for, comes the chance to hunt the Wild Turkey that is abundant on the island; re-introduced in 2002, what started as on 25 birds has grown to a substantial flock.
