Our transport roots trace back to another era and part of the world.

Grandpa E Wiersma, with his fleet in the 1930's in Friesland Holland. Unfortunately the business did not survive World War II, when small boy Ed Wiersma listened to the many stories told about a proud era and times.

When Ed was ten years old, Ed's Dad decided to leave Holland and explore new opportunities in Canada. Ed grew up on a farm and used to stand at the barn to get a ride in the cattle truck, even though it was only to the end of the laneway. Fascinated by trucks, Ed wanted to drive one someday and he followed his dream and became a truck driver in 1971.

In 1973 Ed did what many drivers dream of doing, he bought his own tractor. For the next five years, he worked as an owner-operator for various companies. In 1978, Ed was leased to a lumber company hauling lumber to the USA. The company backed him for ICC Authority and Ontario PCV Authority, and as a result, Ed Wiersma was able to establish Wiersma Trucking.

"Family support has been another staple for me," says Ed. My wife Grace of over 35 years, joined partnership with me in 1989 and since that time has taken care of all the accounting responsibilities. This has allowed me more time to focus on pressing matters, such as growing our business and maintaining customer service. Our vision has always been to provide one of the highest quality, safety oriented transportation services in North America, while contributing to the success of our customers, employees, and the well being our community.

Looking forward, my son Nic Wiersma joined Ed Wiersma Trucking Inc in 2007 after completing a three year Business Administration Management program. He is currently being groomed to take over the business. Nic has taken over many of the day to day responsibilities, so he has every opportunity to learn all aspects of the business. The goal is to have Nic running the company, while maintaining the same level of integrity, loyalty and excellence in customer service which has made Ed Wiersma Trucking what it is today.

The company specialized in hauling flatbed truckload freight to and from USA points from the surrounding area of the company's Kitchener, Ontario home terminal.
