The story of Jordans is of a commitment to quality in both product and service. It is this simple, yet passionate, commitment that began our business and still guides and sustains us today. Our success, longevity and reputation are the achievements of our dedication to provide quality in all that we do.

Jordans today is known as a retailer that provides a broad range of products and services across the Home Furnishings and Flooring industries. Yet there is one product that characterizes us more than any other and is what our business was founded upon, the hand-knotted carpet. Our founder, Edwin Jordan-Knox, had a passion for this exotic and enchanting art form. Functional, historical and artistic the hand-knotted carpet is a thing of undeniable value and beauty. It has been Jordans’ privilege to work with such an extraordinary art form and the amazing craftsmen that weave them.

Edwin saw opportunity out West and set upon realizing his vision of bringing the finest works from the Orient and showcasing them in the most beautiful surroundings. This vision was fulfilled with the opening of the first Jordans Rugs store at 2536 Granville Street in the up and coming South Granville area of Vancouver in 1929. Although this was not the best of times to be starting a new business, Edwin and Jordans prospered and began to set the standard for the rug business in Vancouver.

Jordans continued to grow and became a true leader in the importation of hand-knotted carpets in Western Canada, especially with the introduction of the 'British Indian'. Jordans is steeped in the history of these carpets and the well-known names 'Taj Mahal' and 'Tajiran' have long been registered trade-marks.

During the pre-war period Jordans continued to evolve and began to sell a wider range of goods, including window treatments, wall coverings, furniture and a completely new product - broadloom!

The uncertainty of World War II forced many changes upon the business. The concern that the war would potentially disrupt our ability to import product from the Middle and Far East, led Edwin and his two sons Charles and Trevor to seriously consider what Jordans would be without a ready supply of hand-knotted carpets. At the time it was a great risk, but the decision was made to commit to broadloom and set in motion an amazing success where Jordans has now sold more wall to wall carpet than anyone else in Canada.

Jordans was, in fact, the first company to bring broadloom into Canada. But, it was not until after World War II, alongside the development of the North American broadloom industry, that it became a central part of our business and facilitated new growth and new opportunities. The growth in wall to wall carpeting facilitated Jordans’ expansion in the post-war period throughout Western Canada from Victoria to Winnipeg. Carpeting also led to Jordans entering the Commercial Flooring business in the early 1970's and this has contributed greatly to the scope and nature of our company.

After the war, along with broadloom, the company began to showcase fine furnishings and the late Fifties saw the incorporation of Jordans Interiors. This company was created for the purpose of selling the very best quality from the world's pre-eminent manufacturers.

Jordans launched a new era with the launch of the new flagship store at 1470 West Broadway in November of 1980. With the vision of the next generation of leadership, David Jordan-Knox, (grandson of the founder) this was to be a store of a scope and ambition had never been seen before in Canada. The size and beauty of the showcase and the first-class merchandise made the statement that Jordans was truly one of Canada's premiere retailers. This original to Canada concept of fine furnishings, rugs and flooring proved itself a success and has since been repeated in Victoria, Coquitlam, and Kelowna.

The company has continued to invest deeper in the Home Decor industry with the Jordans Flooring Outlet stores that offer our customers the best prices on flooring available with the confidence that comes with purchasing from Jordans.

Recently, the Jordans Home furniture stores have been created offering our customers a more relaxed look and feel at affordable prices. The addition of these concepts to our existing business has given Jordans the ability to serve our customers across a wider range of the market.
