More than 250 guests and volunteers came out in support of Durham Community Foundation's Odyssey Ball "New York! New York!" on February 1st, 2014 at the Ajax Convention Centre. The signature fundraising gala for Durham Community Foundation, emceed by Christine Bentley, was a huge success for attendees and the community. "It's really a wonderful night for the foundation and the Region of Durham", says Kim Lewis, Chair, Durham Community Foundation, "As one of Canada's 191 Community Foundations we are committed to building community throughout the region not only through funding, but also by raising awareness and sharing expertise to strengthen charities and foster giving." "We're grateful to our Presenting Sponsor TD Bank Group, for making this a night to remember. We've had tremendous support from community leaders, companies and our donors who give throughout the year, to ensure that individuals, and families in Durham are supported", says Executive Director, Vivian Curl. So far more than $700,000 has been granted in total since the Foundation's inception. Its endowment has grown to $1.8 million. In addition to its successful signature Odyssey Ball, Durham Community Foundation partners in a variety of community initiatives such as the highly successful Registered Disabilities Savings Plan seminar recently offered in partnership with The Pension Specialists and the Abilities Centre, and the inaugural Philanthropy Day Forum held last November.
