General information

I am Marta de Boer owner and operator of Grimsby Tranquility Massage Therapy. As a sole practitioner I’m often asked why I chose to start my own business as a massage therapist. In one sense the answer comes from the saying “If you do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”. I love being a massage therapist because I get to help people obtain a better quality of life. Massage therapy is truly a form of therapy. The body and the mind are very deeply interconnected and when you work on one you work on the other. Ask any experienced massage therapist and they will tell you that your body really does hold your emotions. For instance, when you go through a stressful period in your life your muscles will knot and tense and your whole body will readjust itself to compensate for the change. It could be years later when you see a qualified massage therapist but when those tense muscles are correctly manipulated then patients often get a flood of emotion- rebalancing their psyche as their muscles and other systems are realigned. This is a powerful example but even your everyday stresses have an impact on the body.

I also find the field fascinating and I am always excited to learn new techniques and therapies to help my patients. I have traveled to many places so that I can provide the services my clients are looking for. I have learned from hydrotherapy experts in California as well as lymphatic drainage therapy in Florida. I have even traveled as far south as Argentina, to enhance my knowledge of therapeutic exercises and learn the value of wine massage. My travels to Colombia taught me a great deal about proper spa treatments and I was privileged to learn Madero massage techniques from some of the world’s best practitioners.

The reason I decided to open my own massage therapy studio is that
1) I enjoy being my own boss and
2) I want to make absolutely sure that the people who come to see me are well taken care of.

This is not to say that other qualified massage therapists are not excellent at what they do. Rather it is that I have a very personalized and individual approach to the therapies I provide and I personally need to know that my clients are receiving the best treatment I can offer.

I spend a lot of time thinking about how I can make the experience better for my clients. That is why I installed a waterfall and perform therapies with an open door to my garden- so that they can listen to birds chirping and water cascading, making it easier to relax while being treated.
